Central Florida Wages

Central Florida wages are in the news again. It's no wonder. It's a pure and simple fact that people need decent wages in order to sustain themselves. Companies are fully aware of their costs - when prices go up they are covering for their expenses - higher taxes, fuel costs, increased product costs, insurance and several other factors. If the employers realize this and make adjustments to compensate themselves, why is it so hard for them to realize that the employees have increased expenses as well.

Low wages put many decent, hard-working citizens into a position where they require some type of public assistance. According to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, fifty percent of of households seeking food assistance have at least one person working full time.

Second Harvest Food Bank began on faith

When the board of the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank and its executive director Pam Irvine signed a three-year lease on the big warehouse at Electric Road and the Boulevard in Salem in 2004, they did it on faith."Usually," Irvine told a group in a tour several weeks ago, "an organization raises the money first [before undertaking a $2-million venture] but we had to make a decision fast to get this place that's so ideal for us. So now we've got four months to really make it ours."

Kraft cuts Dairylea fat and salt

Food giant Kraft has said its Dairylea snacks aimed at children have been made healthier by cutting the amount of fat and saturated fat in Lunchables.

Fats are being cut by about one third and the salt content is being reduced by about 9%.

Dairylea products had been criticised by health campaigners who complained about Lunchables' high salt content.

Kraft said revamped Lunchables had no artificial colours, flavours, or trans fats, and 113% more fibre than before.

The firm said in a statement: "New recipe Dairylea Lunchables is one example of how Kraft Foods is working with consumers to help them make healthy choices more easily."

Consensus Action on Salt and Health (Cash) welcomed the move but said a chicken sandwich without cheese would contain about 0.64g salt, which it said is about a third of the salt content of the Ham 'n' Cheese Sub Lunchable.
