Two owners hope tests reveal cause of dogs’ deaths
When Huntsville resident Robert Barley switched his dog's brand of food last week, he did it wanting to give her what he thought would be a healthier meal. However, soon after he began feeding Beneful dog food to Pearl, a 5-year-old German Shepherd/Labrador mix, she was dead. "I took her to the vet every year," Barley said. "I always kept her on her Heartworm medicine and flea medicine. "She never had anything negative. She was a healthy dog," He thought it might have just been a freak, isolated incident until he overheard a co-worker talking about how her dog had died suddenly, too. Janet Rambeck, also of Huntsville, started feeding her dog from a bag of Beneful she had bought just before Christmas at Wal-Mart. Rambeck said she had only fed Sooner, a 7-year-old Dachshund, the food on Friday, Jan.

DPWH vows to build Balagtas Interchange linking North Food ...
City of Malolos (27 February) -- Bulacan's proposed North Food Exchange (NFE) project is now assured of an interchange after the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) commits to finance the Balagtas interchange that will provide exchange facilities for the agricultural and other commodity flows to and from Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan in a meeting with officials in the province confirmed to allocate funds from the DPWH's budget. He also instructed the Regional Office to include the allocation in their 2008 and 2009 agency budget. Estimated to cost a whooping P300-M, the said interchange will further expedite trade and commerce in a soon to rise show-window for local and global products in the country. Governor Josie Dela Cruz said the construction of the Balagtas Interchange would provide convenience and accessibility, cause prevention of product wastage, and fast transporting of goods.
Women's rugby to play in national championship game next month
The men's team wasn't in need of their services, so the girls approached the coaches and the four agreed to help them out. "By some miracle we got in touch with these four guys," O'Keefe said. "It was a stroke of luck. We saw them leaving and asked for their help and they stayed for practice. I guess we're just a charming group of girls. It was a complete turn around and we're really excited about that." The team had the money in its budget to pay the four coaches, but the coaches refused to be paid. "They're doing it just because they love rugby," O'Keefe said. "They love being around it. They saw the potential that we had and they just genuinely wanted to help us out." The team showed vast improvement in every aspect of the game this year under the guise of their new coaches.
