Tests show no signs of toxins in dog food

Test results from laboratories at Texas A&M University and Purina show there no connection between Beneful dog food and the mysterious deaths of two Huntsville dogs. The canine companions of Janet Rambeck and Robert Barley died of similar causes the last weekend in January. When Rambeck discovered both their dogs died just days after eating Beneful dried dog food bought from Wal-Mart at about the same time, Rambeck decided to send the food off for testing by both Purina and Texas A&M. Rambeck and Barley weren't alone, though. Pet products Web-site DoggyBling.com had reported nearly 20 other cases of dogs dying under nearly identical circumstances and symptoms. Results from both tests came back showing no signs of abnormalities within the food. Purina released the following statement regarding their test results.

Ten Ways to Prepare for the Post-Oil Society

Our attitudes about land-use will have to change dramatically. The building codes and zoning laws will eventually be abandoned and will have to be replaced with vernacular wisdom. Get busy.

4. We have to move things and people differently. This is the sunset of Happy Motoring (including the entire US trucking system). Get used to it. Don't waste your society's remaining resources trying to prop up car-and-truck dependency. Moving things and people by water and rail is vastly more energy-efficient. Need something to do? Get involved in restoring public transit. Let's start with railroads, and let's make sure we electrify them so they will run on things other than fossil fuel or, if we have to run them partly on coal-fired power plants, at least scrub the emissions and sequester the CO2 at as few source-points as possible.

Ban dog breeding until all strays are adopted

Shame on the Pedigree Dog Food Co., the USA channel and others for showing the dog food commercial in the support of the Westminster Kennel Club Show. These animals are primped, pampered and purposefully bred for the purpose of display. Then, in the same commercial, those adorable, homeless, innocent and forgotten dogs were shown in an attempt to guilt folks into adopting a pet.

Talk of the bay: Condo's first step will mean big traffic jam

A big building demands a big pour. Pinellas County's most expensive building, the $125-million, 36-story Signature Place condominium tower at 100 First Ave. S, will gum up 11 city blocks Saturday morning to make room for 147 concrete trucks. How much of the stuff will feed the tower's foundation Saturday? Let's say it's enough to lay a sidewalk nearly 5 miles. Signature developer Joel Cantor said the glass, sail-shaped building should open in March 2009 with condos costing about $700,000 apiece.

Frenchman walks from Egypt to Spain on an 8000 km trek of peace ...

'The important thing in traveling is not just to go from one point to another, but what you see and do between those two points,' says Philippe. And for him the most important thing between any two points 'is the people.' 'Here in Turkey are some of the finest, friendliest people I have met and I will always remember them'

ALLAN ADASIAK
ANTALYA – Turkish Daily News

Forty-six-year-old Philippe Jacq left Antalya recently, having walked here from Mt. Sinai on an 8,000 kilometer trek that will take him along the Mediterranean and to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

He walks for Love and Peace the names written on his left and right shoes. Philippe estimates his stride is 75 centimeters and so that by the time he reaches the Atlantic Ocean, where Santiago's religious pilgrims embarked and debarked centuries ago, he will have taken 12 million steps.

The important thing in traveling is not just to go from one point to another, but what you see and do between those two points, said Philippe, adding that for him the most important thing between any two points is the people.
