| Friday Night is Thai Night
Seattlest and Mrs. Seattlest have been getting take out on Friday nights at Chantanee Family Thai Restaurant in Bellevue for almost 3 years and have found no better Thai restaurant on the Eastside. From time to time, we eschew the styrofoam containers and eat our meal in the gold and purple themed interior. The service? Efficient and friendly. Mrs. Seattlest is the more adventurous of our duo and has eaten her way around most of the menu, finding some new favorites such as Heavenly Beef or the asparagus and prawns special. When I pressed her on her favorite dish, she reluctantly admitted that it was Chantanee Fried Rice. This dish combines just about every protein on the menu: pork, beef, chicken, prawns and calamari. For us, it's always old reliable – Chicken Panang Curry with 3 stars of spice (#12 at lunch and #39 at dinner).
Sainsbury Shares Rise; Marks' Rose Considers Bid (Update5)
March 1 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of J Sainsbury Plc climbed the most in a month after Marks & Spencer Group Plc Chief Executive Officer Stuart Rose said he's considering bidding for Britain's third-largest supermarket chain. Marks & Spencer, the U.K.'s biggest clothing retailer, said in a subsequent statement that it won't make an offer ``at this time.'' The company reserved the right to bid if Sainsbury's board recommends a takeover or if CVC Capital Partners Ltd. makes a formal offer, proposing Europe's biggest buyout. ``This does apply a bit of pressure to the CVC group to sharpen their pencils and come up with an offer,'' said John Guy, an analyst at Man Securities in London. ``The statement does put into play a competitive auction.'' Shares of Sainsbury have climbed 17 percent, taking the retailer's market value above 9 billion pounds ($17.6 billion), since CVC, Blackstone Group LP and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

A Desired Epidemic: Obesity and the Food Industry
In the Middle Ages, alchemists sought to turn common metals into gold. Today some doctors and scientists seeking to prevent and treat obesity in the United States are attempting an equally difficult transformation. They want to change people, their willpower, their lifestyles, their metabolism, even their DNA to make it harder to gain weight and easier to lose it. However, transforming people with drugs, weight-loss surgery, genetic engineering, hypnosis and other extreme steps is not the answer to obesity, because people are not the problem. .

Penn State Researcher Humbled by Guyana Visit
Frank Higdon recently returned from Guyana after a two-week trek in the South American paradise. He can officially say he has grown a greater appreciation for farming in the U.S. He traveled with four others to Guyana in January, where he not only learned a lot about the struggles of farmers in the small South American country, he learned just how fortunate farmers in the U.S. are. The trip was sponsored by the Partners of the Americas and the Farmer to Farmer Program, which was created to improve economic conditions in rural Latin America and the Caribbean through increased food production and distribution. It was not the first time Higdon, a senior lecturer in community development at Penn State, has traveled outside of the country to learn about ag practices elsewhere.
