Meatloaf, Mexican style

Cynthia Lehr of Tequesta, Fla., used to have a recipe for Mexican Meatloaf and has had trouble finding another one she likes as much. Madeline Fossey of Cape May, N.J., sent a recipe for a Mexican-style meatloaf that she and her family really enjoy. This meatloaf is a cinch to prepare and quite delicious. While I tested the recipe using all ground beef, ground turkey or a mixture of the two could be substituted for a more healthful alternative. I recommend serving it with mashed potatoes or Spanish rice and a green vegetable. You will have a tasty twist on an old-fashioned comfort food in no time. MEXICAN MEATLOAF 1 1/2 pounds ground beef or ground turkey one 6.8-ounce package Spanish rice 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes with jalapeos one 8-ounce package shredded Mexican four-cheese blend (divided use) 1 or 2 jalapeo peppers, minced (optional) Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Food company Heinz's Q3 profit climbs amid strong sales

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Food maker H.J. Heinz Co. said Tuesday its fiscal third-quarter profit surged, driven by strong sales of its top brands and reflecting the impact of discontinued operations.

Net income rose to US$219 million, or 66 cents per share, for the period ended Jan. 31 from $116.6 million, or 35 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Revenue grew five per cent to $2.3 billion from $2.19 billion last year, helped by growth in Heinz-brand products, Smart Ones meals, Classico pasta sauces, Plasmon baby food and ABC-brand products.

Heinz said a focus on health and wellness, more marketing efforts and growth in China and other international markets helped lift quarterly results.

The results beat Wall Street expectations.

Want to Have a Baby? Eat Ice Cream, Drink Milk!

(AXcess News) Houston, TX - Women who eat ice cream and drink whole-fat rich milk have a better chance of becoming pregnant, researchers say.

Those women who are looking to avoid pregnancy should eat low-fat ice cream and drink skim milk, the oppositedietofwomen who want to become pregnant.

Researchers found that women who ate two or more portions of low-fat dairy foods a day increased their risk of ovulation-related infertility by 85%, compared with women who ate less than one portion a week.

Those findings came from a study conducted by Dr. Jorge Chavarro, M.D., Sc.D. and his colleagues of the Harvard School of Public Health which was publishedin the Feb. 28 issue of Human Reproduction.

Dr. Chavarro explained that if women ate at least one portion of high-fat dairy food a day, their risk of anovulatory infertility was 27% lower compared with women who had one high-fat dairy serving a week, or even less.

Size matters: The dangers of big portions

As a consuming public, the problem we're having - the thing that is adding about 100 calories to our daily diets, researchers have found, and making us into an increasingly overweight society - isn't so much the food we're eating as the amounts to which we are helping ourselves. Decrease serving sizes and move around a little more, and victory in the battle of the bulge can be yours to claim.
